Green Slime

YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU'RE WATCHING. Bizarre, over the top sci fi movie like no other. A Japanese production with a Western cast. The monsters and their sparking tentacles are utterly unique. This movie is colorful, unique and original. It's also wildly over acted and riotously improbable. In other words, a nearly perfect old sci fi movie.

A space station discovers an asteroid heading for Earth! An heroic astronaut is summoned and sent to the space station to launch a mission to save the Earth. The space station is commanded by a former partner who is now engaged to the heroic astronaut's former girlfriend. They blast off and destroy the asteroid, barely escaping with their lives, but they discover that they've introduced a kind of green slime onto the space station which grows like crazy when given any amount of energy.

The crew of the space station and the heroic astronaut do battle with the green slime, which has now somehow coalesced into ugly tentacle-waving electrified monsters. With a single eyeball. The special effects are astounding up to this point, but the introduction of the monsters put this movie into overdrive. And the cast somehow plays it straight, to their everlasting credit.

The love triangle simmers and/or sputters throughout the movie, eventually terminating when the former partner gets killed by one of the aliens, which have greatly multiplied by this point. The infested space station is sent burning down into the atmosphere and the surviving crew and the heroic astronaut head for Earth in a more controlled fashion.

Overall it's a ludicrous, colorful, insanely great sci fi movie, so far over the top your jaw will just be hanging open in disbelief. Did I mention the Green Slime theme song?
