Them!

A GIANT ANT ATTACKS!

FANTASTIC MOVIE! Two New Mexico policemen investigate a lost little girl in the desert and find her family's destroyed mobile home, then investigate a local shopkeeper's death. Odd footprints are found which cannot be identified, so the print is sent to the FBI in Washington for identification. Washington sends two scientists to investigate further.

THEM! THEM!.

The scientists are reluctant to reveal their suspicions until they're certain. Exposing the lost little girl to the smell of formic acid produces a violent, fearful response. A trip to the desert leads to an attack by a giant ant! Gloriously cheap special effects.

From there they search for and discover the giant nest of the giant ants and use bazookas to send incendiary shells onto it, driving the ants deep into the next, then they throw cyanide grenades into the next, and then climb down into the nest in an effort to discover if any queen ants have hatched and flown off to establish more giant ant nests. This leads to tracking the queen ants down and destroying their nests, and finally to the storm drains beneath Los Angeles where the final nest is destroyed. Great movie, great acting, dialog, cinematography -- a real favorite. The best of the 1950s giant bug movies.
